El Poblado is recognized not only for its high buildings and landmarks throughout the city but also for its constant and wide range of services and experiences that allow enjoying its locations from various perspectives: cultural, gastronomic, artistic, commercial, and entertainment, among many others.
Something that makes this community even more remarkable is its abundance of nature, the glow of green trees and plants, and the vibrant colors of its fauna and flora that make the perfect combo between the typical city elements in a more harmonious and balanced way.
Being immersed in the neighborhoods of El Poblado brings with it the possibility of enjoying specific points that serve as green lungs within the city since expansive and open parks surround them for the entire community's enjoyment.
One of them is the Canal Parque Gabriel García Márquez (Canal Park), which in the middle of its 28,000 square meters, has one of the most well-known institutions in the city, the local television channel: Telemedellín. (The channel occupies only 10% of the land, while the rest is an Environmental Park for citizen use).
The origin of this park‘s name is a way of honoring the legacy of Gabriel García Márquez, the Colombian writer and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. He is recognized internationally as the father of Magical Realism and as the author of the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude, his most outstanding work, available in more than 35 languages. In addition, the channel wanted to highlight this author’s passion for images and journalism as a way of building citizenship.
Getting into this park is immersing yourself in endless wonders and experiences of nature and wildlife, which contribute to the keeping of pure air and the harmony of its visitors. According to data from Canal Parque, there are tulips, heliconias, beads and paradise flowers, mango trees, palm trees, almond trees, kapok trees, guamos, and guavas. Also, diverse species of birds, such as Robins, Swallows, and Woodpeckers.
This is definitely the perfect spot to get away from the noise of the city and find some peace and calm while appreciating the beauty and majesty of the flora and fauna it possesses. Whether walking along its trails, sharing a family picnic, or looking for a pleasing space to read or rest, the doors of Canal Parque Gabriel García Márquez are always open to the community.
